Cecilia Millson

Oxfordshire has many stories from the rich treasury of its past - tales of drama and enchantment which are retold by each generation but which become dulled and uncertain as time goes by.

Who was the fine lady who jingled through Banbury on a white horse? Did Amy Robsart slip and fall to her death down the stairs of Cumnor Place, or was she pushed? Why is St. Margaret's Well at Binsey called a treacle well?

Cecilia Millson restores to these and a host of other stories all their original vigour and colour, bringing back through time a glorious pageant of characters and events.

Her extensive knowledge of local history and her ability to rediscover old country tales have led to many popular talks and newspaper articles. She is the author of several collections of stories including Tales of Old Wiltshire and Tales of Old

Berkshire.

These extracts are taken for a book by Cecilia Millson, published by Countryside Books of Newbury Berkshire, with illustrations by Don Osmond

The whole book together with the following other county titles can be purchased from Countryside books
