The shy ones are hiding.

Swerford Linedancers was started about eight years ago by a group of Swerford residents and friends as a spin- off from a Chipping Norton based class which they had attended and enjoyed.

Several of the founder members still attend the Monday sessions, including Polly Stillman who currently leads the group.

There are currently twelve regular members, including one man. The atmosphere is very informal and the emphasis is enjoyment as well as exercise.

New members are welcomed and given support and encouragement by the rest of the group.

Dances vary in complexity from very simple to more intricate, and a new dance is taught every two weeks or so. This means everyone has a chance to join in and gain a sense of achievement.

You don't need a partner, but you can bring one, and most of the dances are possible even if you do have two left feet.

A fantastic memory is not essential either, as the steps do become automatic eventually and Polly gives instructions/ directions as necessary.

The reasons given by longstanding and recent members alike for enjoying the Monday meetings are: that it's good fun, they enjoy meeting people and catching up with what's going on locally and that they feel better for the exercise.

PS If you're looking for 'Yee Ha's' - there aren't any!

The current cost for the two hour session is £3 which includes a cup of tea and a biscuit. Why not come along and try? There is no long term obligation or commitment.

At Christmas the dancers try to match the dances they've learned to Christmas songs. Sometimes it works, even when led by a reindeer!

And then there's the party.
