Swerford is a charming village of ironstone cottages, which occupies a secluded valley to the north east of Chipping Norton. It is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086. St Mary's church, founded at the beginning of the 13th century, is a prominent feature, and stands in front of a motte and bailey which was probably erected almost a century earlier.
Several artists and craftspeople live in this delightful village, and painting, photography, pottery, furniture making and floral artistry are all represented. Swerford regularly participates in the Oxfordshire Artweeks program. There is more than one MBE in the village.

Local farm produce and craft items are available at the market held in the village hall on the first Saturday of every month. The hall is also the venue for regular weekly activities and meetings held by social and educational groups within the locality. Swerford provides an ideal base for visitors to the Oxfordshire Cotswolds and there are several holiday cottages and a playing field for children.
