What to Expect in Services

Church simply means a group of people gathered together to do something together. You may sit where you like and you can join in with as much or as little as you wish. Our meetings for Worship consists of five or six hymns or songs, interspersed with prayers for ourselves and others closer to home and abroad, those we may know and those we don’t, and two or three readings from the Bible. A talk lasting 15 minutes give or take is given by the person leading worship usually on some aspect of the Bible reading appointed for the day. The whole thing lasts around an hour. At some services we share bread and wine together (Holy Communion) and the invitation is made to anyone who loves the Lord to receive.

The person leading the service is often an ordained Minister, and at other times a qualified Local Preacher. Local Preachers are required to be of impeccable character, spend several years in study, several years being mentored and trained, then required to be “on trial” and “on note”, their calling and ability are also tested by the Circuit Local Preachers Meeting. All ordained Ministers are required to have been Local Preachers first. One of the great strengths of Methodism has always been the outstanding quality of it’s Local Preachers

When the service has finished we serve fairtrade coffee, tea and biscuits, and it is a good time to catch up with friends old and new. If you join us for worship, you will be made most welcome whenever you come. We are pretty normal people and whether you are just starting out on your spiritual journey or have been trying to walk with Jesus for some time, we would value your companionship. If you are stuck for transport to a service, please let us know.
