Stonesfield Folk Dancers meet every Wednesday (except August 3rd) from 8pm to 10pm for fun social dancing. Dances come mostly from England, with Scotland, US and other variations at times. No experience is necessary - it helps to know which is left and right but it doesn't always matter! Music is varied between recordings, and live music - both of which can be stopped and started again if it all goes wrong!!!
Folk dancing, country dancing, barn dancing, traditional dancing - they're all basically from the same font. We do some dances that have been handed down through the generations, along with dances recently devised to specific tunes. Plus we have "Playford" dancing which was first published for the court in the 17th Century. Some of these are sedate, gentele and show-offish, others are vigourous little numbers with hopping and slipping.
No experience required. No partner required as we have a number of individuals who come and change between partners during the evening. SO if you come alone or as part of a group you'll be warmly welcomed. Cost? Free for your first night, then £1.50 per night with tea/coffee and biscuits thrown in. We also run Saturday dances, cost £5 - look at http://users.ox.ac.uk/~paulv/sfdg for fuller details.
