DIARY - ELDERFLOWER CORDIAL DEMONSTRATION: 15th June 2008. 12 adults and children enjoyed learning how to make a refreshing summer drink using elderflowers from the woodland and a delicious aroma of lemon and elderflowers filled the glade on a sunny Sunday afternoon. A tasting session of last year's cordial followed, accompanied by home made cakes, and everyone agreed that our demonstrator, Margaret Cochrane's cordial was much nicer than commercial versions. Visit our website for recipes. DIARY - DAWN CHORUS EVENT: 26th April 2008. 19 people got up with the lark, to listen to the dawn chorus at 5am in the Community Woodland, fortified with hot coffee and rolls. It was a beautiful clear morning and two tawny owls called to each other across the woodland as the sun rose. A last bat was seen and a rather suprising mallard duck, joined a wren to start the first wave of calls, including a robin and dozens of blackbirds. John Woolliams identified 21 different species of bird for us, repeating their calls, and we all managed to identify a local cockerel. A song thrush and blackcap joined the chorus at the end of the hour, and a swallow was seen, flying overhead.

DIARY - PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION LAUNCH : 23rd April, 2008. John Brown, recently involved in filming "Moose on the Loose" and "Ganges" for the BBC, entertained 25 people over a glass of wine, with his experiences as a wildlife photographer. He gave useful advice for entrants to our competition, subject "Leafield Wildlife", about composition, lighting and use of lenses, illustrated with beautiful photographs from his own portfolio, including several handsome macaque monkeys from his most recent expedition. We are very grateful to him for sharing his expertise and agreeing to judge our competition at the end of the summer.
