Eynsham
Neighbourhood includes the
parishes of Cassington, Hardwick with
Yelford, North Leigh, South
Leigh, Northmoor, Standlake and
Stanton Harcourt.
The top priorities for this
area were
identified by public consultation in
summer 2007:
Police Visibility
Activities for young people: make a difference!
A
Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG),
made up of local people, partner
agencies and police, meets on a
regular basis to look at the priorities
and try to resolve them.
The

“PCSO
Robert Hopping left us this
month to join the regular police
service. He will be missed by the team
and the community he has served for the
last year. We all wish him the
best for the future. He will replaced
in the near future by James
Cunningham who will introduce himself
to the community on his arrival.
You may have seen me in the papers
this month as the team has now
received the new Blackberrys that
enable us to check vehicles and
persons, receive emails and check
photographs of suspects while out
on patrol.
The team has completed
the training for the body worn
video cameras and you should see us out
and about with them over the
coming weeks. These are worn on
officer’s shoulders and when in
operation a red light flashes and the
officer is identified by a
florescent armband.
This will assist
the team in recording
incidents of anti-social behaviour
which can then be played back at
court, giving an accurate record of the
incident for the magistrates
to view. This has already increased
guilty pleas at court as you
cannot argue with the recorded
evidence.
On Monday 9 June PCSOs
Helen Keen and Robert Hopping took the
Speed Indicator Device (SID)
to Witney Road. Fifty vehicles were
checked and five were
driving over the speed limit, so were
given warnings.
Over the
last three weeks there has been damage
caused to two cars in Queen
Street. The wing mirrors, roof rack and
aerial have been damaged in
the early hours. Whoever is responsible
is probably walking back
from the pub so we ask you to leave the
vehicles alone. This is
criminal damage and we treat the
offence very seriously.
We have had several reports of
groups of youths gathering in
Back Lane car park and Witney Road play area acting in
an anti-social
manner. Could we ask residents to
report all incidents to us and they
will be dealt with.
We are also
receiving reports about problems
with residents parking on pavements
causing an obstruction for
pedestrians. We will be patrolling and
issuing tickets as
appropriate.”
MAY

“On Thursday 1 May
during the May Day Parade the team

On
Friday 2 May a Mondeo parked in
Stratford Drive was deliberately
scratched.
Between Monday 5 May
and Tuesday 6 May in a lay-by on the
A40 a dumper truck and a Volvo
digger were stolen. Did you see anyone
acting suspiciously?
On
Monday 5 May there was a burglary at
Spareacre Hire and a black
Renault Megane was stolen between
9.30pm and 8am the following
day.
On Tuesday 6 May speed
enforcement was carried out in
Witney
Road where 90 vehicles checked. Five
motorists were given warnings so
please slow down.
On Tuesday 6 May
at 23.45pm a wall was damaged
in the grounds of Bartholomew
school. A group of youths were seen
in
the grounds around that time. If you
have any information please
contact the team.

parked in Back Lane on Tuesday 6
May and Wednesday 7 May between 4pm and
7.50am had its windows
smashed.

in the pub at the time and did you see
anyone go upstairs?
On
Tuesday 13 May a blue Volkswagen polo

at the playgroup in the
grounds of Beech Road School.

recreation ground. Equipment and
gloves will be
provided.”
APRIL
2008
“
Eynsham annual parish
meeting was held on Tuesday 22
April at the village hall. The
team attended and gave the good news
that since arrival of the PCSOs,
crime in the village has fallen by 13%
and criminal damage is down by
38%. However there have been the
following incidents:
* Between
Sunday 30 March and Tuesday 8 April a
bicycle was stolen from Tanners
Lane.
* The milk thefts started
again on Saturday 1 April from the
milk float in Acre End street.
On
Monday 14 April at approximately
5pm, two white men in their thirties
entered the Co-op and stole two
bottles of champagne. One was wearing
blue jeans and a black jacket
and the other wore dark trousers with a
grey jacket. Did you see them
leave, or get into a vehicle? If so,
please let one of us
know.
Between Monday 14 April and
Tuesday 15 April a small amount
of lead was stolen from St Peter's
Church roof in Abbey Street.
At
4.30pm on Wednesday 16 April some
bales of hay were set on fire in a
field adjacent to Chilbridge Road.
The fire service was called out and a
number of local youths were
identified as the offenders. This kind
of behaviour is a waste of the
emergency services time and is a threat
to farmers’ income as
well as being dangerous to the people
starting the fire. Luckily this
time the damage was minimal, but it
could have been worse and you
could get more than your fingers
burned.
Damage was caused to a
blue Ford Escort between Friday 18
April and Saturday 19 April in
Clover Place. There will be extra
patrols in the area.
On
Tuesday 22 April a blue Renault Clio
was damaged in the school car
park at Bartholomew
school between 6pm and
midnight.
In Queen
Street on Friday 25 April at 10.20pm a
silver Ford Focus was set on
fire. On Saturday 26 April to Sunday 27
April in Clover Place a Ford
Escort van and a blue Volkswagen pick-
up had their windows broken. If
you saw something please let us
know.
PCSO Robert Hopping visited
the pre-school at the primary
school on Wednesday 2 April to talk
to
the children and show them the police
car.”
MARCH
2008
“On
Monday 3 March at 2.30am the alarm was
activated at Oxon
Fastenings on Oakfield Industrial
Estate. The offenders failed to
gain access but did anyone see or hear
anything?
Also on 3 March
in Pelican Place, the home of an
elderly resident was broken into.
The back door was forced open and a man
pretended to be a police
officer telling the resident that the
offender had been arrested,
which was untrue. This is a despicable
crime, did you see anyone
acting suspiciously in the area?
Between Sunday 2 and Tuesday 4
March graffiti was drawn on a gate in
Clover Place in pink paint.
Does anyone know the tag
‘BAIM’? This has happened
several times now so if you have any
information please speak to PCSO
Helen
Keen.

Toll Bridge was broken into
and equipment was stolen overnight on
4/5 March.
PCSO Keen visited
the primary
school on Thursday 6 March to talk
to the pupils.
A speed
operation was carried out in Station
Road. 58 vehicles were checked,
five were driving at 35/40mph in the
30mph zone and three were over
40mph. All of these were issued with
warnings.
On Saturday 8 March
at 11pm a window was smashed in
Millmoor Crescent.
A garage in
Marlborough Close was broken into and a
vehicle badge was removed
sometime between Sunday 24 February and
Monday 10 March.
Between
Friday 21 and Monday 24 March offenders
tried to smash a window at
Eynsham Primary School. If you live
near the school or are passing
when it is closed and see people in the
school grounds please let the
police know. The school has a limited
budget and money is being
wasted repairing criminal damage
incidents.”
FEBRUARY
2008
We are having problems
with car crime throughout the
neighborhood. Please be careful
when parking at beauty spots and do not
leave valuables in your
vehicle.
On Wednesday 6
February between 3.45am and 4.45am
there was a burglary at Lloyds
Chemist. A breeze block was thrown
through the front glass window and
access was gained.
Graffiti occurred
to garages behind Back
Lane and damage to a fence in the
area on Saturday 9 February.
More graffiti was painted on the
garages again on Tuesday 12 February
between 5.30pm and 8am.Did you see
anything? If so please let us
know.
A window was smashed in a
house in Mill Street on Sunday 10
February; a gate in Clover Place was
covered in paint on Monday 11
February.
A speeding
operation was
carried out in Witney Road on Friday 15
February. 120 vehicles were
checked and 3% were over 35mph. The
drivers were issued warnings.
On
Monday 18 February PCSO Helen Keen
searched a youth and found drugs. On
the same day a small fire was
started at a window at the primary
school in Beech Road at
approximately 7.15am. There was also a
burglary at the Swan public
house between 2.45pm and 4pm.
A
brick wall was damaged by youths
playing with a football at Back Lane on
Friday 22 February.
We
are seeing an increase in criminal
damage in the Back
Lane area. If you have any information
please pop into the
office or speak to PCSO Helen Keen or
PCSO Robert Hopping. Help the
team to stop this anti-social
behaviour.

Overnight on 10 January
there was a burglary at Bartholomew
School where the offenders smashed
a window to gain entry.
Nothing was taken though.
On 14
January between 12.30am and 5.40am
offenders attempted to smash through
the brick wall at the Tesco
Express on the A40. They didn’t
get in, but were you passing by
during this time and did you see
anything suspicious?
Between 12
and 16 January a garage was broken into
at the bottom of Abbey Street
and tools were stolen.
Damage was
caused to a rear gate in Clover
Place and covered in green paint
between 15 and 19 January.
A grey
Ford Escort in Wytham Close was stolen
between 6pm and 6.30am
overnight on 21 January.
A number of
vehicles were broken into
overnight at JW Motors on Oakfield
Industrial Estate on 21
January.
On 21 January between 9pm
and 10.15am the following day,
a van had its rear window smashed in
Spareacre Lane. Another van was
also damaged on this road overnight on
24 January.
Between 22 and
24 January windows were smashed at a
property in Mill Street. This is
an usual number of incidents for
Eynsham and we are doing our best to
investigate them. Can I repeat our
appeal that if anyone has seen
something suspicious in relation to
these crimes, then can they get
in touch on 0845
8 505 505.
The team
has been out on foot and bicycle patrol
visiting the Youth Club to
help with some painting. We also
carried out a survey with the youths
for the NAG.
The
team has attended the
Eynsham parish meeting and gave a talk
to the OAP lunch at the
village hall.
On 13 January the
Probation Service along with the
Neighbourhood team and NAG members
repainted the graffiti wall,
which
has proved so popular with young
artists in the village. The paint
was kindly supplied by the Community
Safety Partnership.
The team
also carried out speed education
in Witney Road.
If you
have any problems please speak to PCSO
Helen Keen or pop into the
police office at the village
hall.

from Hanborough Close between 2pm on
01/12 and 9am on 03/12: if you
got one for Christmas make sure you
lock it up.
