« The wall-hanging was conceived as a group project by the embroidery class run by Eynsham Adult Learning. It was begun in the summer of 2002 just as the Village Hall was opened and completed in October 2006.

A design was drawn up by tutor Kerry Forkner and presented to the hall committee with suggestions that the village clubs or societies could be represented on squares to create a patchwork effect around the central title.

With permission to go ahead, the group began to collect the symbols of the groups and societies which are part of life in Eynsham and the motifs were simplified to make them easier to interpret through stitch. The hanging was funded by donations from the societies themselves and stitched and assembled using a variety of embroidery techniques. These include appliqué, fabric painting, canvas work, machine embroidery, cross- stitch, silk shading, crewelwork, and blackwork.
