May: new seating on Monk's Green

The two 'new' logs for seating on Monk's Green come from 200- year old oak trees from Buren Estate.

Negotiating a path through the trees

Diggers on the way to remove silt from the moat round Harvey’s House Mound, and from part of the bed of the old Chilbrook, revealing the medieval landscape.

Cutting the first turf

Ian Hutt and Graham Podbury took immense care with the digging. Paul Hughes stands by.

The Big Dig - 1

John Richards of Phototechniques records the event for a future show in the Village Hall

The Big Dig - 2

Looking towards the log seats and Monk's Green. The area will be filled over time by water that still finds its way along the old river bed and by the stream which flows from the spring in Abbey Field.
We have also built a small dam which will be adjusted if necessary to retain a depth of water.
