HAVE
YOU SEEN SID?
Neighbourhood
Management Update June
2006
Speeding
is the top community safety priority
in West Oxfordshire ...
including Eynsham. The local
Neighbourhood
Action Group (NAG) now has a
two-stage plan for tackling it; and
SID is key to Stage
One.
1. AWARENESS-RAISING
SID
is a Speed
Indicator Device. Fixed units
sit at the side of the road and flash
up your speed as you drive past
– then flash a smile if you're
within the limit. A mobile
version toured the Eynsham area in mid-
June; you may have spotted it in
Witney Road or Hanborough
Road.
Response to
SID (and accompanying team) was
immediate. It can only be hoped that
the memory lingers.
Parish
Council Chairman Gordon Beach
joined the team for one session and
commented:
“...
Whilst it was pleasing to note that
only a few motorists were failing
to stay within the speed limit, it was
disturbing to see the number
of vehicles where the driver and/or
the passenger were not wearing a
seat belt. As a result the Police will
carry out further spot checks
over the coming weeks and issue fixed
penalty
notices."
