Volunteering in the Garden

Image 1 for Volunteering in the Garden
Like the house, Chastleton Garden has a unique, ancient and timeless atmosphere. The garden broadly retains its original Jacobean layout, apart from having a few gates and doors added to the walls over time. The garden is entered by the Forecourt, with its soft, random planting. The Best Garden has a central feature of old, overgrown box topiarty with amorphous shapes, encircled by a yew hedge. There is a Kitchen Garden (recently expanded), a Wilderness and Nuttery, croquet lawns, working West Garden and a Stable Yard. The garden is framed by walls with fruit and roses and large hedges.

For more information on the garden, please visit our blog at http://chastletongardennt.blogspot.com/ or by following the link from the 'Useful Links' page.

Would you like to volunteer in the garden at Chastleton House?

Our garden volunteers take on many interesting roles, including garden maintenance, taking visitors on tours of the garden, playing croquet with visitors, selling plants and produce from our stall and helping Visitor Reception.

We currently have vacancies for Visitor Services Volunteers (manning the produce stall/helping Visitor reception Staff), croquet engagement and garden tour guides. If you are interested in garden maintenance, we have a waiting list for this at the moment but vacancies do come up now and again.

If you are interested in any of these roles, please get in touch with Julie Charlesworth, Garden Volunteer Co- ordinator: julie.charlesworth@nationaltrust.org.uk
