BRIZE SINGERS

A picture for BRIZE-SINGERS

Welcome to the BRIZE SINGERS (formerly the RAF Brize Norton Singers)

The RAF Brize Norton Singers were formed in 1969 by, and under the musical directorship of, Flt Lt Bert Walker with his wife, Barbara, the accompanist. The membership initially was comprised of Royal Air Force personnel and their wives, but quickly branched out to include civilians from the local community. The early years were busy and exciting times with three television appearances on the late Hughie Green's popular 'Opportunity Knocks' programme, the production of two LP's in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund and invitations to perform far afield as well as locally.

In 2003 the RAF Brize Norton Community Centre, which had been the Singers base since it was built in 1974, was refurbished and the Singers were obliged to look for new accommodation. Fortunately they were welcomed by the High Street, Witney, Methodist Church where they now rehearse in the Wesley Room every Monday evening between 8 and 10pm. In December 2003 the RAF Brize Norton Singers reluctantly decided to leave the umbrella of the RAF and changed their name to the BRIZE SINGERS.
