ST JAMES CHURCH - MEMORIAL INSCRIPTIONS. Members of Aston History Group have surveyed the churchyard at St James Church. Inscriptions, descriptions and locations of all existing headstones/footstones have been noted. Details of tablets and memorials within the church are also held. The approximate location of many unmarked graves from 1840 onwards are known from older records.

COTE CHAPEL - MEMORIAL INSCRIPTIONS. A survey by group members has provided details and inscriptions from all readable headstones and footstones in the burial ground at Cote.

OTHER PROJECTS which have provided useful information about the history of our area include:

TITHE MAPS and APPORTIONMENT - these give details of owners and residents of buildings and land in the 1840s

ASTON TRAINING SCHOOL and LAUNDRY - The school was founded in 1883 by Jane Clarke and used to train young girls for domestic service. A commercial laundry was opened later and this provided additional training facilities for the girls. While the school closed in 1924 the laundry remained in use until the 1970s.

We are keen to help anyone with Family History queries and to hear from anyone who can add to our knowledge of our past. In particular anyone with old pictures of the parish and any information about Aston Training School, Laundry and Jane Clarke, its founder.
