RESIDENTS RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. IT IS AN OFFENCE TO PARK ON THE HIGHWAY VERGES AND FOOTWAYS Doing so damages the verges and kills the daffodils which are just emerging. Obstructing footways is unsafe and inconvenient for pedestrians. We have repeatedly asked residents who do so to stop. The Parish Council is now cooperating with OCC Highways and Thames Valley Police to prevent such offences being committed in Alvescot. We have gone to great lengths to improve parking facilities in the village. Please park on the highway, or use the Parish Council car park and the newly installed extension to Gassons Mead lay-by. If such parking persists the Parish Council will be forced to introduce by-laws to control it. Residents may be required to pay for reinstatement of the verges and for replacing bulbs

2. UNLICENSED VEHICLES If you own a car and keep it on the highway please make sure it is licensed. Reports have shown that unlicensed vehicles are usually also not insured, increasing the premiums which law-abiding motorists pay by around £30. Thames Valley Police are clamping down on unlicensed vehicles and are carrying out spot checks in Alvescot. We would like to warn vehicle owners that verges, footways and lay-bys are part of the highway, and residents who keep unlicensed vehicles anywhere other than on their driveway are committing a road traffic offence. In line with our normal practice, WODC will be informed of any unlicensed vehicles left in the Parish Council car park, so that owners can be traced and/or vehicles disposed of. Thank you for your cooperation.
